The good folks at "All My Children" finally managed an hourlong episode devoted to the character of Myrtle Fargate. Eileen Herlie, actor who played her, died, so the character was finally announced as having died as well.
These episodes are always kind of a tearjerker for me. These characters are on TV every day for so long, they start to feel like part of the family. The tribute was wonderful with lots of old clips. Myrtle was a special friend to Zach, so at one point, he's in an elevator, sitting on the floor of the car, crying his eyes out.
Agnes Nixon, AMC's creator, even peeked in during the memorial service and blew a kiss toward Myrtle's portrait.
All in all it was satisfying. I had been wondering about when they might kill the character since the actor had died back in October, but I'm glad they didn't rush into anything. It was like when Mona and Phoebe died.
Gotta love the soaps. They're a dying breed, along with everything else.
